Concern or interference? The European Parliament and the treatment of Human Rights in Cuba during the Crisis by Covid-19 (2019-2021).

Abstract

The new campaigns promoted by far-right sectors within the European Parliament (EP) during the health crisis caused by Covid-19, aim to affect the Caribbean country's relations with the European Union and the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement, signed by Havana and Brussels in 2016. The cause of the approval of this type of sentences, with an extraterritorial and interventionist nature, lies in the presence of small groups of MEPs who act according to the interests of Washington. However, there are not a few legislators, parliamentary groups, organizations, entities, and individuals who constantly denounce these maneuvers and concentrate their efforts on demanding the lifting of the blockade against Cuba. Taking into account the described scenario, the goal of this paper is to evaluate the role of the European Parliament in the campaign promoted to manipulate the treatment of Human Rights in Cuba in the period 2019-2021.
