The Amazon is one of the most strategic regions on the planet due to its role in climate stability, its environmental importance and the amount of natural resources it has. In order to promote the harmonious development of the Amazon basin, the countries with territorial involvement in the area created the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO) in 1995. Currently, the Amazon faces multidimensional threats that put efforts for its protection and preservation at risk. The governments of the ACTO member nations, aware of the need to advance a new common collaboration agenda, held the IV Amazon Summit on August 8 and 9, 2023. The event played as a starting point in the construction of a new common agenda of the ACTO member states, since it served as a catalyst for more effective initiatives by outlining the main objectives shared by Amazonian nations. It provided the organization with a multidimensional approach, and showed a greater commitment from the stakeholders to achieve equitable governance.
