Historical Evolution of Protocol and Ceremonial in Cuba

Abstract

Diplomacy includes a list of norms, customs and formalities that facilitate the work of diplomatic agents. These are called Protocol and are defined as the set of generally accepted traditions, norms and conventions of diplomatic practice. Both, protocol and ceremonial arise from customs or traditions, therefore, in each country they evolve differently according to the rules of international acceptance and other aspects conditioned by the objective reality of each nation. The Cuban Diplomatic Ceremonial background goes back to the birth of the Republic, in an evolutionary process that was incorporating organicity and coherence when reaching its peak with the Diplomatic Ceremonial of Cuba, 1960. The Cuban Ceremonial has been adapted to new situations over the years and also, in correspondence with the institutional changes carried out in the country, which has been noticed at the same time in the ISRI educational system.
