Abstract

The Russian Constitution of 1993, originally conceived as a framework for the transition to liberal democracy, has been used by President Vladimir Putin to consolidate a new political system in Russia. Since coming to power in 2000, Putin and his policies have shaped the implementation of the Magna Carta, adapting its legal framework to the needs of a governance model that seeks long-term stability and national development. The constitutional amendments promoted by Putin in 2008, 2014 and 2020, have strengthened the executive power and the presidential figure and introduced important changes in three other key institutions of the Russian political system: the Federal Assembly, the Government and the Judiciary. The political project initiated two decades ago is not only completed, but also surpasses its objectives in its entirety, consolidating a new legal-political stage for Russia.
