Hybrid warfare and disinformation on social media: analytical approaches to contemporary conflicts
Keywords:
hybrid warfare, misinformation, social media, conflictsAbstract
The following contribution is a letter to the editor, which seeks to open the debate on the role of social media in hybrid warfare contexts. The authors argue that, in contemporary conflicts, competition for attention and credibility becomes a strategic resource. From this perspective, digital platforms function as amplifiers of influence, allowing for the mass dissemination of simplified, emotionally charged narratives that are sometimes disconnected from complex empirical contexts, thereby contributing to misinformation. In this scenario, media literacy, the strengthening of professional journalism, and international cooperation on digital governance are some of the measures needed to mitigate disinformation in times of conflict.
