The bilateral relations between Israel and Argentina during Javier Milei's presidency (2023-2025).

Abstract

The bilateral relations between Israel and Argentina have been characterized, historically, by an interaction of affinities and tensions. Since its establishment in 1949, when Argentina became the first Latin-american country to establish a diplomatic representation to the Zionist State, the conection has consisted mainly in economic bounds and the signifcant presence of the argentinian jewish community. Traditionally, argentinian foreign policy towards Israel has had a pragmatic approach, searching to balance diverse interests. However, the current administration, lead by president Javier Milei, has marked an unprecedented political turn. Several economic initiatives, the unprecedented approach in political subjects, the support of the Gaza invasion and the new cooperation regarding security affairs, have been some of the key factors where the bilateral argentinian-israeli agenda has strenghthened. In this context, this research paper proposes to analize the main advances in bilateral relations between Argentina and Israel during Javier Milei’s presidency (2023-2025). To accomplish that, the main iniatiatives adopted in diverse areas of cooperation with the government of prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu are examined.
